Exploring Holiday Volunteer Opportunities

The holiday spirit is certainly contagious. One minute, you’re cleaning up Thanksgiving dinner and the next, you’re singing Christmas carols with your family. The holiday season is one of everyone’s favorite times of the year because of the quality time you get to spend with friends and family. However, there are some people out there in Greensboro that won’t have the opportunity to spend the holidays with those they love. Either because of homelessness or food insecurity, many people need extra assistance to make it through the cold winter months. If you’re a senior living in and receiving home care in Greensboro NC, there are plenty of ways that you can give back this holiday season. And after all, isn’t that what it should be all about?

  • You can easily start volunteering and making an impact in your community by starting with the place you spend every Sunday. Your houses of worship, whether they are churches or mosques or temples, really need extra help during the holidays. Check with the heads of your houses of worship to see how you can help out in these months. Maybe you can help with a special event that is going on or just help clean up after Sunday services.
  • You can really help out the community by heading to your local food bank or soup kitchen to lend your hand to those in need. Many of these places are overwhelmed during the holiday season because those that are facing food insecurity just don’t have a place to get a hot meal when the temperatures start to drop. You can volunteer by packaging meals to go or serving out hot meals to those that come by. The Guilford County Food Pantry is a great place to start if you want to make a big impact in December.
  • Another great place to look to help out this holiday is your local library. The Greensboro Public Library is definitely going to be looking for volunteer’s all-year round to re-stock shelves, help at the desk, or even help out during book readings. There are probably some different holiday events that require extra volunteers, so call them up today or stop by there when you’re in town next.
