Jim Smeaton

President & Director of Client Care

Jim Smeaton is the owner of Always Best Care of Western North Carolina. He is a graduate of Rider University Prior to founding Always Best Care in 2011, Jim spent over 30 years in a variety of sales / marketing, product management and customer service management roles in the electronics and packaging industries.

While he wears many hats in the business, Jim most enjoys visiting referral sources and current and prospective clients and listening to their life stories. He serves on the board of Aging Projects, Inc. and is on the local Walk to End Alzheimer’s committee.

Jim and his wife Anne are the proud parents of three grown sons who are all “off the payroll” and living in North Carolina. His interests include playing golf, hiking, anything related to the water (lakes or beach) and skiing with the FROGS (Five Really Old Guys Skiing).

Stephanie Tucker

Business Administration Coordinator

Stephanie is a native of Florida and moved to Western NC in 2016 and “couldn’t be happier with our decision”. She has been with Always Best Care Senior Services since December of 2016. She has always been partial to and has personal experience working with seniors having cared for her grandfather. Stephanie attended the University of North Florida where she met my husband of 14 years. They have three amazing children together.

In her spare time, she and her family enjoy fishing and hiking around the many beautiful places Western North Carolina has to offer.

Melisa Lunsford

Staffing Coordinator / Scheduler

Melisa was born and raised on the coast of North Carolina and grew up in WNC which has always been “home” to her. She is a med tech and has worked in geriatrics in Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing facilities and in home care for about 7 years. She has a special heart felt interest in hospice and caring for her loved ones.

She is happily married and she and her husband enjoy spending time outdoors and with their family and pets. She owes her success in life to having faith in God and hard work.

Mary Steiner

Client Care Coordinator

Mary was a Pennsylvania resident until October 2018 when she moved to Hendersonville to be with her parents. Mary has 26 years’ experience in social services, serving families throughout the life span, birth to death. Mary has always taken care of others and is excited to meet new people and learn a whole new state.

Mary has two biological children, daughter in Pa and son who is in the Air Force and many foster sons scattered everywhere!

Janet Mathis

Registered Nurse

Janet is a Registered Nurse with 35 years experience with an extensive background in care management and long term care. Her background includes emergency medical, instructor for the National Heart Association in CPR/BLS/AED and certification as a legal nurse consultant. Janet is a native of Asheville, NC who has been married for 28 years and who has four grown sons. Janet enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, camping, fishing and boating as well as reading and traveling.

Danielle Owen

Staffing Coordinator / Scheduler

Danielle Owen was born and raised in Western North Carolina. She has been a caregiver for over 20 Years, starting with Always Best Care in 2013 as a Caregiver before moving into her current role as a Staffing Coordinator / Scheduler in 2021. Danielle has a big heart and loves to help others. She is a single mother to a teenage daughter and in her spare time loves to go four wheeling.

Carol Allison

Community Marketing Representative

Carol Allison is a native of WNC and is a graduate of Western Carolina University. After graduating she spent a short time in Florida before coming back to Asheville. Prior to working with Always Best Care, Carol worked as a Long-Term Care Ombudsman for 3 years and has a passion for senior advocacy. She also held Management roles in Long Term Care Facilities for nearly a decade.

Carol enjoys traveling, camping, and hiking with her husband Chris and their dog Willow. She also loves to crochet and spending quality time with her friends.

Sandra Pitt

Shiane Hudson

Recruiting Coordinator / HR Administrator

Shiane grew up in Brevard, NC. Played softball as a teen, at Rosman High School. Where she would graduate from school, and then took some college courses in health care at Blue Ridge Community College. Shiane has two sisters, along with one niece and three nephews. She has 10 years of experience as a healthcare professional in WNC, as well as health administration experience in NW Florida. A traveler at heart, also loves to hunt wild fish and game. Enjoys watersports in the summer, as well as snowboarding in the winter. Dedicates her life to God and family and is committed to compassion and care in others.

Elizabeth Treuter

Registered Nurse

Elizabeth has been a Registered Nurse for 23 years working in Long-Term Care, Med-Surg and Home Health, and has her Wound Care certification. Prior to becoming an RN, Elizabeth was an LPN and before that had experience as an educator and as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She grew up in Texas and lived in Nebraska, Arkansas and Maryland before settling in North Carolina.

Elizabeth started with Always Best Care working as a Caregiver and continues to do so when not working for us in her RN capacity. Elizabeth states, “ I have always enjoyed working with the elderly and find personal satisfaction knowing I can make a difference in their life”.

In her spare time, Elizabeth enjoys sewing, gardening, reading, watching movies and traveling. She has been to all 50 states and parts of Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom, and has New Zealand, Switzerland and Germany on her travel bucket list.
