Keep Essential Supplies Stocked For Senior With In Home Care Services

Until the pandemic threat period has passed, it’s not safe for seniors to shop in-person. Today’s post highlights the risks seniors face shopping during COVID-19, then explains how to eliminate them with our in-home care services.

Study Data Shows Clinton Township Seniors Should Avoid Shopping During COVID-19

New data from a Rutgers School of Public Health study highlights the risks that seniors face with in-person grocery shopping during the pandemic.

According to Leslie M. Kantor, professor and chair of the department of urban-global public health, the most frequent location people visited or worked prior to testing positive for COVID-19 was the supermarket. This echoes reports from earlier this year tying 48 outbreaks of COVID-19 to grocery stores in Riverside, CA.

The study also reaffirmed that seniors are at heightened risk of COVID-19 complications. According to the data, 31% of Americans who have died from COVID-19 as of today were 85 and older, and 27% were ages 75 to 84.

In light of these findings, Kantor recommends that seniors use grocery delivery services or ask caregivers to pick up essential items, such as medication, groceries, and cleaning supplies. Recruiting friends, family members, or trusted caregivers is preferable, since it creates opportunities for quick, COVID-safe social visits that may also help to stave off the harmful effects of senior isolation.

Clinton Township Community Keeping Seniors Safe And Well-Supplied

Heeding the call for senior support, Clinton Township community members are stepping up.

On December 17th, the Macomb County Office of Senior Services distributed approximately 1000 care packages stuffed with essentials items for local senior citizens. According to a report by Clinton Township’s Community Corner, the packages included personal protective equipment, pantry staples, and cleaning supplies such as soap, gloves, and hand sanitizer.

“Our office is working diligently to ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of our seniors,” said Sheila Cote, director of the Macomb County Office of Senior Services. “These care packages are just one initiative that can help us reach that goal.”

Even before the pandemic, hundreds of local seniors relied on our qualified in-home care workers to pack their pantries and pick up prescriptions. When the WHO officially declared the start of the pandemic, and the CDC released their COVID-19 Guidance for Older Adults, we were among the first to implement COVID-safe caregiving practices and expand our shopping services.

Whatever your loved one needs, and whenever they need it, our in-home care team will deliver, and ensure that any items are properly sanitized before they enter the home. The future may be uncertain, but you can have peace of mind, knowing your loved one has all their essential supplies stocked while sheltering in place.
