Exploring Exciting Volunteer Opportunities in 2017
There is an ancient adage that as people get older, they often become set in their ways. The start of a new year, however, is the perfect time for seniors receiving home care in Monroe LA to turn over a new leaf and try something for the first time.
Exploring the variety of volunteer opportunities that are available in and around Monroe could provide a senior with a host of new friends and a feeling of self-satisfaction from helping their local community.
We’ve rounded up three of the best opportunities for them to take a look at, below:
Keep Monroe Beautiful
If you know a senior that takes great pride in where they live, then the Keep Monroe Beautiful initiative run by the city council may be the perfect role for them.
Every month an army of volunteers converges on the city’s streets to take part in great cleanup events. Volunteers are given all of the necessary safety equipment, such as gloves, to make sure that they can do the job safely.
The council is always in need of volunteers for the scheme, so it doesn’t matter how much or how little someone contributes – as long as they come out to help, they’ll be doing their bit.
Help out at the Local Hospital
Staff at the St. Francis Medical Centre and the St. Francis Community Health Center are currently on the lookout for volunteers to help with a number of different positions.
A senior you know could work in the hospital’s gift shop or provide information as a desk assistant to visitors. In all, there are 12 positions the centers are trying to fill, each requiring different skill sets.
If a senior is willing to contribute four hours of their time each week, the hospital will reward them with a free meal pass and flu immunization shots.
The Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana on Central Avenue in Monroe is a fantastic place for a senior to meet new people from all walks of life.
Work for the charity largely centers on the preparation and delivery of food boxes to those in need around the state, so the work is of huge importance.
Although the charity expects you to be able to contribute a certain number of hours a week, they are flexible enough to let volunteers choose a schedule that fits around their lifestyle.
