Community Health

Always Best Care South Bay intends to be thought leader in senior care, and as such, we offer a number of research-based community health programs that promote healthy lifestyles, strategies for successful aging, and empirically supported approaches that may limit individual risk for developing dementia. Educational workshops are hosted at a variety of churches, senior centers, libraries, and community centers across the South Bay. Memory Boosters – A series of workshops on for seniors and other community members who are interested in improving their memories while learning strategies that have been shown to potentially lower an individual’s risk for developing Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia.

Topics include:

  • Memory Boot Camp – A course in neuroplasticity and cognitive fitness
  • NeuroGuard – A workshop exploring brain foods for optimal aging
  • Debunking the Myths of Aging – An educational session on how to overcome ageism and thrive in a youth focused society

MindMatters – Educational sessions that focus on living longer and living well.  A number of empirically supported strategies that promote longevity and limit age-related disability are covered.  Attendees will walk away with tools to cultivate purpose, joy, and happiness along the aging journey.

Topics include:

  • Purpose: A Foundation for Living Well
  • The Happiness Advantage: Cultivating Contentment from the Outside In
  • Love and Loss in the Later Years: Managing Grief and Making Meaning

Professional Community Education – Evidence-based programs that provide 6-8 hours of continuing education credit for licensed marriage and family therapists, licensed clinical social workers, and licensed professional clinical counselors.

Topics include:

  • Overview of functional, behavioral, and cognitive changes in dementia and Alzheimer’s disease and their treatment
  • Psychotherapeutic interventions for people with memory loss and their families
  • Community resources and programs for people with memory loss and their families
  • Assessing mental status and cognitive function: Useful tools for interpretation
