Exploring Exciting Volunteer Opportunities In 2017

What do you think 2017 is the year for? Maybe it’s the year that you’re finally going to start that business you’ve always wanted to start. Or maybe you want to start going to the gym more and really getting your nutrition in check. Or maybe it’s as simple as spending more time with your friends and family you barely saw this past year. These are all fantastic resolutions that all of us should aspire to. However, one of the best resolutions you can make is to volunteer more in your local community. There are plenty of people out there in your community who need some extra assistance. Maybe they’re facing homelessness or just don’t have the means to get food on the table. Or maybe your local public library just needs some extra hands on deck. Whatever it is, your resolution for 2017 should include something about volunteering so you can help make the world a little bit of a brighter place to live in, one kind act at a time. And if you’re receiving in-home care in San Mateo CA, there are tons of opportunities for you to get out there and engage with those who need some extra help.

  • As mentioned in the description above, you can easily work with your local public library to find some tasks to volunteer on. The San Mateo Public Library is always looking for volunteers and they would be happy to have a senior come on board. You can help with anything from re-shelving books to reading to kids. Or there might be some special events you and your family can help staff. No matter what it is, you’ll be helping a really great institution that provides books to so many people.
  • Another option for volunteering is one that many people look to when they think about volunteering. Soup kitchens and food pantries are fantastic institutions that help many of those who are facing food insecurity and unsustainable food sources. And like libraries, they are always looking for extra hands to help out around the facility. You can do anything as simple as cleaning up after those that come through the door to serving food at the counter. Stop by Second Harvest Food Bank and ask how you can spend part of 2017 volunteering with them.
