Home Care Manhattan Beach, CA

They say that your golden years are the best years of your life. For most older Americans, that's how it should be - a time to relax, reflect, and live life in a familiar place. After all, senior citizens in the U.S. have worked tirelessly to build a better economy, serve their communities, and raise families.

However, as seniors grow older, completing daily tasks like showering and enjoying activities such as visiting the historic Manhattan Beach Historical Society gets harder without someone by their side. Unfortunately, many older Americans aren't able to rely on their adult children for help. The reality in today's world is that family members do not have the skills or time to dedicate to caring for their parents. That's where Always Best Care Senior Services comes in.

Our in-home care services are for people who prefer to stay at home as they grow older but need ongoing care that family or friends cannot provide. More and more older adults prefer to live far away from long-term, institutionalized facilities and closer to the place where they feel most comfortable - their home. “My dad came home from the hospital, then to hospice care for 4 months, then passed at home. Carrie helped our family during multiple transitions of his care. She is professional and efficient, but also compassionate and empathic. She was a core contact for our family from in- and out-of town, and always responded quickly to calls, emails or txts. Dad's caregiver needs and schedules were ever-changing and Carrie was always able to adjust, helping us to coordinate needs from hospice and family. We are so thankful Dad was able to spend his last months at home. We continue to use Carrie’s services for our mom. The caregivers are trained well and often became friends to my folks. I highly recommend Carrie’s services.”

“Always Best Care was there for us after my wife's surgery. We had a caregiver come each day for two weeks to help bath, feed, walk, and tidy the house during working hours so that my wife was not alone. Our caregiver Naomi was a God sent and so delightful. I often overheard my wife and Naomi singing together. What a joy! Thank you Carrie and ABC Senior Services for making this service available to Beach Cities.”

“I would highly recommend Always Best Care Senior Servicesto help you navigate the care of your loved ones in their senior years of need. We called them when we found out my 92 year old mother in law was due to be released from the hospital but clearly not able to care for herself upon her release. It was a stressful situation but carrie knew exactly the right questions to ask and heard our needs and pointed us in the right direction with all that needed to be done. She set up a call with hospice who arranged for all necessary equipment to be delivered in less than a 24 hour period. She also set up 3 very competent experienced care givers to be at the home in that same 24 hour period. The speed and professionalism in which this all happened could not have handled any better in my opinion. Working with Carrie at Always Best Care Senior Services put our minds at ease and got everything set up for us to care for my mother in law. Carrie was hands on in meeting with us and introducing the care givers and involved with speaking to doctors and hospice and everyone involved with my mother in laws care. She made a highly stressful time much more manageable and guided us every step of the way. She also followed up and made sure all that was supposed to be done was being taken care of. You are in good hands when calling on them for your loved ones care. I am happy to speak to anyone directly if you would like to ask any questions I give my permission for Always Best Care to give my personal phone number out to speak to anyone who is considering using their services.”

“We have had 24/7 care for my mother with ABC for over 2 years. The care and compassion they showed for her really touched my heart. I have had to ask for last minute help when another caregiver (not from ABC) could not show up for a shift, Carrie and staff always came through for me. She has always been available to work out problems and last minute requests, I can't say enough about how important that has been to me when I live out of state.I have really been able to rely on their judgement once they got to know my moms likes and needs, they always tried to match her with a caregiver that she would also feel comfortable with personally. The caregivers were long term, they did not come and go, mom really became attached and appreciated them. The caregivers speak highly about Carrie as their employer, they have mentioned to me they really feel like she cares and looks after them as well. Touches like Loli dropping by for a visit to chat with mom, or remembering her birthday with a bunch of flowers was so great. I would definitely recommend!”

“We are deeply grateful to Carrie and to two of the ABC caregivers in particular, María Flores and Soledad, for their professionalism, dedication and superb service over the course of nearly two years. They provided coverage on evening shifts on weekends and some weekdays —as well as on occasional overnight shifts— for my mother who was in the early-to-moderate stages of Alzheimer’s. (We recently moved her into an assisted living facility.) Because our need for ABC's services was sporadic and variable, Carrie and her staff often had to juggle quite a bit to accommodate us — for which we are grateful. Occasionally we’d be assigned a caregiver who wasn’t the best fit but Carrie was always responsive to our concerns and would work with us to find a different caregiver. We also appreciate the “added value” that Loli brought to the table — her overall expertise on elder care, knowledge about related resources, and guidance on how to make our home safer for my mother. We are pleased to highly recommend Carrie and ABC for your in-home eldercare needs.”

“I needed to find an assisted living community for my dad in a hurry, and knew that I didn't have as much time as I'd like to do all of the research on my own. I was very relieved when I found Carrie to help us as a consultant for our search. She was very detail-oriented in acquiring the necessary info from us, and helped us to find a few places with availability that we could visit. I very much appreciated her knowledge of so many various communities, her professionalism, her efficiency, and the wide range of items that she suggested we consider, that we may not have thought of on our own. I would highly recommend her placement services.”

What is Non-Medical Senior Care in Manhattan Beach, CA?

lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

lm-check

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one gets older, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

Respite Care

Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Our respite care services help family caregivers address urgent obligations, spend time with their children, and enjoy nearby activities. Perhaps more importantly, respite care gives family members time to recharge and regroup. Taking personal time to de-stress reduces the risk of caregiver burnout. So, if you've always wanted to eat at the local The Strand House or visit Manhattan Beach Pier, don't feel bad. Doing so is great for both you and your loved one.

At the end of the day, our goal is to become a valuable part of your senior's daily routine. That way, we may help give them the highest quality of life possible. We know that staying at home is important for your loved one, and we are here to help make sure that is possible.

If you have been on the fence about non-medical home care, there has never been a better time than now to give your senior the care, assistance, and companionship they deserve.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in Manhattan Beach, CA, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your CA's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Manhattan Beach, CA understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

Respite Care Manhattan Beach, CA

At assisted living communities, seniors receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They may also benefit from coordination of services with outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Caregivers who work at assisted living communities can also provide medication administration and personal care services for older adults.

Other services offered within assisted living communities can include some or all of the following:

  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Recreational Activities
  • Social Outings
  • Emergency Medical Response
  • Medication Monitoring
  • Family Visitation
  • Personal Care
 Caregivers Manhattan Beach, CA

At Always Best Care, our representatives can match your senior's emotional, physical, and financial needs with viable assisted living communities nearby. Results are based on comparative data, so you can select the best choice for you or your loved one.

This information can include basic care and rent, resident availability, and services provided. Some of the most popular assisted living communities to consider in our area include the following:

The corner of Manhattan Beach Boulevard and Ocean Drive tells a tale of two eras: Manhattan Beach’s surf bum past and its glitzy present. On the south side of the intersection sits Shellback Tavern. Preserved within its blacked-out beachfront windows and memorabilia-covered walls — signed by volleyball gold medalists Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings and other local icons — is one of the last places in the neighborhood where you can buy a few beers with only the damp, crumpled 20-dollar bill in the pocket of your swim trunks. On the north side, there’s the Strand House, a multistory bar and restaurant built mostly of steel and paneless glass windows, which serves $50 entrees and provides diners with an unencumbered view of the beach, the sunset and the turquoise Manhattan Beach pier.

Get to know Los Angeles through the places that bring it to life. From restaurants to shops to outdoor spaces, here’s what to discover now.

“Manhattan Beach was a small, quiet beach town for most of its history, and many residents like to cling to that image,” said Gary McAulay, a retired policeman and former head of the Manhattan Beach Historical Society, who has lived in Manhattan Beach for 40 years. “In some ways, it actually is still a close-knit community, but skyrocketing real estate prices and hyper-gentrification, as well as burgeoning tourism, have had their effect on the town’s character.”

Angelenos who find themselves in Manhattan Beach may wonder if they accidentally landed in an idyllic beach town instead of an incorporated city off the 405, just south of LAX. Stroll around the hilly, pedestrian-only walk streets to find groups of friends barbecuing in front yards from morning to night. Pop into a cafe for a lemonade or a boutique for a seashell-covered home decor item. Take a bike ride along the beachfront promenade, the Strand, where maybe you’ll stop to watch a volleyball tournament — or just lust after the homes. At the end of a beach day, summit Manhattan Beach Boulevard and take a seat at Simmzy’s for an ahi tuna starter, burger and sangria.

As in the rest of Los Angeles County, median home prices in Manhattan Beach have doubled over the last 10 years. For better or for worse, depending on who you ask, the upscale-ification has helped make the beach city an even more popular weekend destination. Manhattan Beach Post and Fishing With Dynamite (both helmed by chef David Lefevre) have received numerous accolades, including spots on The Times’ 101 Best Restaurants list, over the years. The Strand House is part of the Zislis Group portfolio, which also owns the swanky Shade Hotel and other restaurants and gastropubs dotting Manhattan Beach Boulevard and the surrounding areas.

The long-standing neighborhood classics are still there — the Kettle and Pancho’s, for instance — but as blogger and longtime beach cities resident Jennifer Richmond notes, “Those are definitely few and far between from the more high-end, three- and four-dollar-sign restaurants.”

This guide encompasses both the neighborhood’s roots and its modern reality. You’ll find more quaint character in the north Manhattan Beach neighborhood of El Porto, new and old gems in the downtown area and true community both further inland and throughout. And, as befits a beach city, the best things are still free.

“Take a stroll along the ocean and get your toes wet,” advises McAulay. “Watch the sunset. It’s beautiful.”

Anyone who’s lived in a major metropolis can tell you that neighborhoods are a tricky thing. They’re eternally malleable and evoke sociological questions around how we place our homes, our neighbors and our communities within a wider tapestry. In the name of neighborly generosity, we included gems that may linger outside of technical parameters. Instead of leaning into stark definitions, we hope to celebrate all of the places that make us love where we live.

Following a discussion that was half-serious, half "I can't believe we're spending time on this," the Manhattan Beach City Council on Tuesday night approved the camellia as the city's second official flower.

The camellia now joins the beach primrose in a place of honor in the city's official records.

Specifically, the council voted to keep the beach primrose as the "official native wildflower," while the camellia would be designated the "official historic flower and shrub" of Manhattan Beach.

The motion was approved on a 4-0-1 vote, with Mayor Richard Montgomery abstaining in part over frustration with the dialogue and the amount of time spent on the issue.

Camellia History in Manhattan Beach

The move to give the camellia official city status took shape in the wake of new awareness about the history of the camellia in Manhattan Beach.

Camellia grower and horticultural pioneer Francis M. Uyematsu was a successful Japanese businessman and nursery owner who grew prized camellias and cherry trees on a 120-acre property in Manhattan Beach. During World War II, the Uyematsu family was forced to relocate to the Manzanar detention center, and Uyematsu had to sell off most of his land to sustain his business. After the war, with his business far below pre-war levels, Uyematsu sold the last 40 acres of his Manhattan Beach property to the Redondo Union High School District (which at the time also included Manhattan Beach) for what became Mira Costa High School.

Mira Costa has since recognized the history of the land with a plaque dedicated to Uyematsu and his family.

Throughout the years in Manhattan Beach, the camellia has long been a popular flower and shrub. In fact, the camellia had actually been the official flower of Manhattan Beach from 1959 until 2011. But in 2011, at the urging of the Manhattan Beach Botanical Garden, the city changed its official flower to the beach primrose because it is a native flower known for its drought tolerance and uniqueness to the beach.

A dozen years later, in light of the new recognition of the history of the camellia in Manhattan Beach, the Manhattan Beach Botanical Garden recommended the dual designation (keeping the beach primrose as the "official native wildflower," and designating the camellia as the "official historic flower and shrub" of Manhattan Beach).

A Meaningful Symbol?

Councilmember Amy Howorth, who introduced the resolution, said that the motion would be a way to recognize the importance of the camellia to the history of Manhattan Beach and Uyematsu's contributions to the field of horticulture.

"I think that the importance of this is maybe not what happened to the Uyematsu family [in World War II], but the fact that Mr. Uyematsu was a pioneer, an innovator, and a successful horticulturist who we should be proud of," said Howorth. Having two official city flowers, she said, would be a way for the city to say "We honor the past and look forward to the future."

The new naming would have no budgetary implications, she added.

The proposal had drawn both support and opposition. Jacquelyne May, a lifelong Manhattan Beach resident who had first brought the idea to Howorth, said that the designation would be especially meaningful considering the longtime significance of the camellia in the city. "It was such a huge part of this community growing up," she said.

But local historian Gary McAuley downplayed the significance of the camellia. The Uyematsus lived in Montebello, not Manhattan Beach, and had three large farms in Southern California, he said. The camellia was the "flower of the moment," in the 1950s, added McAuley, and many cities - and even the state of Alabama - designated the camellia as their official flower at that time.

Councilmember Steve Napolitano weighed in to say that he was "agnostic" on the flower naming issue in the sense of, "What is the purpose, what is the meaning? Why are we doing this?"

"Is this the best way to recognize what we’re trying to recognize?" asked Napolitano. "We can check this box, but have we achieved anything? Activity doesn’t always equal achievement. Were there other residents of Manhattan Beach that suffered the same fate [as the Uyematsus] and is there a better way to recognize it? There are things that are more significant than naming a flower to me. I just don’t find it that meaningful."

Yet Councilmember David Lesser called the naming "a teaching opportunity" in recognition of the significant role that camellias had played in the city's history.

Similarly, Mayor Pro Tem Joe Franklin said, "I think the camellia can coexist with the beach primrose and we’re all the better for it. It’s not subtracting, it’s adding."

Montgomery expressed his frustration with the tenor of the debate and some of the comments received from the public. He pointed out that there had been more time spent on the flower discussion than on the city budget. "I'm out," he said, abstaining from the vote.

Santa Float Wraps Up Its Biggest Year Yet

If you're in Manhattan Beach in December and you see block parties, crowds of kids and dogs, snow machines, babies in pajamas, adults in holiday costumes, drinks flowing freely, or even a petting zoo... It must be the night that the Santa float comes to the neighborhood.

The Manhattan Beach Santa Float, a local tradition dating back to 1955, rolls up and down the streets of Manhattan Beach for three weeks every December, bringing treats, good cheer, and photo ops with Santa. Santa and his elves wait patiently on each block as children and adults (and their dogs!) line up to get their (free) picture taken, share their holiday wishes, and get a candy cane.

It's a massive operation that relies on teams of volunteers and coordinators. And it's such a beloved tradition that many neighborhoods have since turned "Santa float night" into the biggest block party of the year.

This year, according to Head Elf Steve Carvel, might have been the most popular year yet. While no one counts the exact number of people that came to meet the float, the number of candy canes handed out is one good barometer. In the past three weeks, Santa and his elves handed out more than 4,000 candy canes (a whopping 4,047 to be exact).

In 2023, Each Night Was Big

During the 2023 run, Santa and his crew saw multiple block parties on each of their nightly rounds, including a full-on petting zoo at one of the gatherings, and of course plenty of impromptu cookie and beverage stands.

Each night, a different community group joins in as elves. On this past Friday night, a number of elves couldn't make it so Carvel had to turn to his "A-list backup elves," a group of moms from Pacific.

These deeply committed elves (Annie Hendrickson, Janet Wein, Kenia Khavar, and Yurika Harris) jumped into action, arriving in head-to-toe elf costumes and sparkly holiday makeup. They deftly helped manage the crowds, and coached kids, both big and small, into smiling for the camera.

Friday night's crew met a giant St. Bernard Doodle named Moose, a trio of tweens wearing Santa hats, a massive block party with possibly more adults than kids, and a few tearful toddlers who were quickly cheered up by candy canes.

Does the float run into mishaps? Well, there are those people who park their cars in the posted temporary "no parking" zones, making it nearly impossible for the float to fit down the street. (If you're one of those people, let this be your warning that coal is going in your stocking.)

Friday night when a few elves stopped off at a local house for a bathroom break, the float left without them...resulting in scramble to find all the elves and make sure they got to the next spot. ("We're sending everyone back to elf school," Head Elf Carvel declared jokingly afterwards.)

The team also runs a "Santa tracker," which allows families to check in online to see where Santa is along his route on any given night. But that means that the person operating the Santa tracker from his or her phone has to remember to turn it off when the rounds are done.

A few years back, said Carvel, the person in charge of holding the Santa tracker forgot to turn it off and then went home and took the dogs for a walk - much to the surprise of anyone who was still tracking Santa that night.

Float Runs on Volunteer Goodwill and Donations

Throughout the years, the float has passed back and forth between the Soroptomists of Manhattan Beach, the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce, and the Kiwanis Club. For a while it was a joint effort between Soroptomists and Kiwanis, until it was fully turned over to the Kiwanis Club in 2015.

In 2017, Carvel, who was also part of the Leadership Manhattan Beach class that year, brought up the idea of refurbishing the falling-apart float as the group's class project. The Leadership Manhattan Beach group agreed, and went on to raise $76,000 to completely overhaul the float and build it a permanent shed, where it is kept in the city storage yard.

The Kiwanis Club also worked with the Manhattan Beach Unified School District in 2018 to assess how to map out the routes so as to reach the most young children. (The routes may be updated next year to reflect new pockets of kids and families.)

Most people assume that the float is run by the city, but it is an all-volunteer operation. The Santa Float accepts donations and sponsors all year long, and also accepts Venmo contributions at @Richard-Block-1 (Rick Block is the Kiwanis Club's treasurer).

If you missed the Santa float in your neighborhood this year, there's always next year: The float traditionally runs for 15 nights (Monday-Friday for three weeks), starting on the first Monday after Thanksgiving.

MANHATTAN BEACH — Four Southern California communities rank among the top 50 richest communities in the country, according to a new report.

Manhattan Beach and Rancho Palos Verdes in Los Angeles County and Ladera Ranch and North Tustin in Orange County landed on the list of "America's Richest Cities" from 24/7 Wall Street. The report looked at communities with populations of at least 25,000 based on median household income and median home value, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey.

Ladera Ranch ranked 29th, Manhattan Beach ranked 30th, Rancho Palos Verdes ranked 43rd, and North Tustin ranked 45th, according to the report by the financial news and opinion website.

Los Altos in Santa Clara County ranked as the richest city in the country, according to the report. But it was far from the only Bay Area city to be included in the list. In fact, the Bay Area was overrepresented among America's wealthiest communities, with 17 cities claiming spots on the list.

Outside the Bay Area, cities tended to be found in large metropolitan areas, particularly Boston, New York City, Washington, D.C., and Dallas.

With a median household income of more than $250,000, Los Altos, a leafy section in western Silicon Valley, is about three times wealthier than the median household in the U.S. The city has a median home value of more than $2 million, which is also over four times greater than the median household price of $410,200 in the U.S.

Los Altos also ranked third for the highest percentage of adults with a bachelor's degree or higher at 85.9 percent, according to the report. The highest in that category is located, naturally, in University Park, Texas, a Dallas suburb that ranked second in the country for median household income.

Here are the Southern California communities that landed on the list. The number in front of the community's name corresponds to its ranking in the overall list. View the full report.
