The Importance of Proper Eyesight Care

A regular part of a senior’s medical care in addition to regular medical and dental checkups should include vision checks. If you are a relative of a senior, you can encourage your loved one to visit the eye doctor for eye checkups periodically, even if he or she does not wear glasses. This allows the doctor to check for any eye disorders early on as well as to prevent the risk of blindness or other vision issues that can result when eye diseases are left untreated.

Common Ailments

A few of the issues that might be experienced by a person as they age include:

  • Cataracts
  • Floaters
  • Glaucoma
  • Dryness

Getting Help

If a senior starts to have difficulty with their vision, he or she might need help with everyday activities. This does not mean that they have to lose their independence, it is simply means they need a little guidance to help them throughout the day. An in-home care service can provide basic help including getting dressed, making meals, grocery shopping or any other day-to-day activities that are difficult for seniors with failing eyesight.
