WHAT IS ASSISTED LIVING?
Assisted Living Facilities are typically for individuals 60 years of age and
older. The facilities are licensed by the State and range in size from 15 to 300
residents on average. Assisted Living Facilities are staffed 24 hours a day to
assist residents as needed. Their function is to provide an apartment-like
atmosphere for elderly persons in need of care.
Residents are provided with:

Shared support such as transportation, medication monitoring, social and
recreational programs

Housekeeping and assistance with their daily living activities such as eating,
bathing, getting in and out of bed, and using the restroom

Centralized dining services
Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE)
are residential homes that have been licensed by the State to take care of
individuals 60 years of age and older. The facilities are located in a
residential neighborhood and range in size from 1 to 14 residents on average.
Their function is to provide all the same services as Assisted Living Facilities
plus the following:

Provide a more intimate home-like setting where the resident can enjoy a living
room, backyard, kitchen/dining services which include three meals a day plus
snacks and a private or shared bedroom

Provide a higher level of assistance to the residents such as transferring from
the bed or wheelchair, ambulating, meals, dressing, incontinence, and personal
hygiene
